In 2017, Bates White employees and the firm donated a combined total of more than $140,000 to the community. Employees organized more than 30 initiatives to support 26 nonprofit organizations. This tops all previous years’ efforts.
At Bates White, staff propose and organize initiatives throughout the year to raise funds through the firm’s BW Community Connections (BWCC) program. Events and activities range from setting up teams to participate in community events such as the Walk and 5K to end HIV and the Lawyers Have Heart race, to holding a clothing drive for Bread for the City, to making blankets for Project Linus.
Through such efforts, the firm’s employees raised money not just for organizations, but for famine relief, Sierra Leone mudslide victims, Hurricanes Harvey and Maria victims, and victims of the October 1 attack in Las Vegas. In addition to financial contributions, employees volunteered in the community by working in kitchens, sorting food, and mentoring middle-school students. And we wrapped up the year by fulfilling the wishes of four families through the Children’s Law Center Holiday Hope Drive.
Charlie Mullin, Bates White Managing Partner, said, “Philanthropy is an integral part of our culture, and this incredible result is a testament to our goal of creating a workplace where employees collaborate to give back to the community. We encourage our employees’ creativity in proposing activities they feel will have the greatest impact on causes they care about. Bates White celebrates these efforts wholeheartedly.”
