Advancements in artificial intelligence and growing cloud computing needs are projected to drive future demand for power by data centers. Managing the demand could set a precedent for accommodating future major power loads. Partner Glenn R. George and Senior Consultant Benjamin Sokol present a virtual discussion to the University of Dundee, Centre for Energy, Petroleum and Mineral Law: “The Data Centre—Nuke Nexus.” They examine how nuclear collocation could enable large loads to be powered immediately, particularly for hyperscalers (companies with large data and cloud computing operations), without requiring upgrades to the power grid. In addition to reviewing potential challenges to collocation, they address benefits of nuclear-renewable collocation.
