Leslie Marx speaks on self-preferencing and AI at 2024 E.CA Expert Forum

Brussels, Belgium
May 30, 2024

At this year’s E.CA Expert Forum, Partner Leslie Marx will speak on the panel “Self-Preferences and AI.” In March 2023, the European Commission (EC) launched the process leading to the adoption of guidelines on exclusionary abuses of dominance. One often discussed theory of harm is self-preferencing. The EC has imposed fines on online technology and retail companies for such behaviors. Yet self-preferencing is hard to define, identify, and monitor, especially when companies increasingly rely on artificial intelligence in their marketing methods.

Dr. Marx will address these issues at this year’s E.CA Expert Forum with co-panelists Mike Walker, Chief Economic Adviser at the Competition and Markets Authority; Gregory Crawford, Professor of Economics at the University of Zurich & Chief Economist Zalando; and Brice Allibert, Head of Unit Antitrust: IT, Internet and Consumer Electronics, at the EC. E.CA Managing Director Hans Friederiszick will chair the panel.

More information is available on the E.CA website. This is an invitation-only event.
