On February 2, Partner Nicholas Hill speaks on the panel “Mergers: Return of Monopsony as an Antitrust Concern” at GCR Live: Law Leaders Global 2023. There has been increased debate about the potential monopoly effects of large companies in a number of industries. However, mergers have renewed interest for antitrust practitioners and enforcers in a range of industries, including tech platforms, book publishing, and agriculture. Dr. Hill and co-panelists will address questions including to what extent impacts on suppliers are appropriate to support a merger challenge, how the approach to monopsony issues has differed in jurisdictions worldwide, and how merging parties might consider the potential antitrust risk to deals that may lead to concentrated buyers.
Dr. Hill’s co-panelists include
- Attila Borsos, Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher
- Debbie Feinstein, Arnold & Porter
- Melissa Fisher, Mergers and Monopolistic Practices Branch of Canada Competition Bureau
- Jenny Schwab, United Airlines
