In 2016, Bates White employees and the firm topped all previous years’ giving to donate a combined total of more than $110,000 to the community. Employees organized more than 35 initiatives to support 26 nonprofit organizations.
At Bates White, staff propose and organize initiatives through the firm’s BW Community Connections (BWCC) program. Events and activities range from volunteering at the Capital Area Food Bank to holding a clothing drive for Bread for the City to conducting an office putt putt tournament for Lawyers Have Heart to competing in a cooking contest to raise money for Higher Achievement. Throughout the year, employees volunteer at local food pantries, collect clothing and other donations, and participate in community events such as the Walk and 5K to End HIV.
Through such efforts, in 2016 the firm’s employees raised money not just for organizations but for Syrian refugees, Hurricane Matthew victims, and a Boy Scout troop’s initiative to provide school supplies to Afghani students. In addition to financial contributions, the firm efforts fulfilled the wishes of six children through the Children’s Law Center Holiday Hope Drive and supported Bread for the City’s Holiday Helpings project to provide dinners for low-income families during the holiday season.
Charlie Mullin, Bates White Managing Partner, said, “The firm celebrates employees’ efforts and giving back. This fantastic result is a testament to our goal of creating a positive and rewarding experience for employees and our community.”
