In 2020, Bates White and its employees donated a combined total of more than $223,000 to the community through the Bates White Community Connection (BWCC) program. This new record tops 2019’s by 18%, which the firm and employees are delighted to have been able to do, given the pandemic. To achieve this result, employees organized 30 initiatives throughout the year to support 22 nonprofit organizations.
While most of the year’s fundraising programs were remote, employee participation was high. Events included a baking competition a la Nailed it for Martha’s Table, virtual Words with Friends to raise funds for Higher Achievement, a showcase of employee talent to support the NAACP Legal Defense Fund, a scavenger hunt to raise money for the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence, a trivia game for Whitman Walker Health, an employee photo contest to support the International Rescue Committee, and a week of spirit wars team events to raise funds for the DC Public Education Fund.
Charlie Mullin, Bates White Managing Partner, said, “I am so proud of Bates White employees, who have contributed so much to the community, especially in a year where the need was greater than ever. These fundraising results reflect the firm’s dedication to creating a workplace that empowers employees to show their support for organizations whose missions they are passionate about. Our employees’ creativity and support are truly heartwarming.”
