Bates White is pleased to announce that Charles H. Mullin has been appointed by its Board of Directors to serve as the next Chair of the firm, effective July 1, 2024. He succeeds Charles E. Bates, a founding member, who has served in the role since the firm’s inception.
Dr. Bates cofounded Bates White Economic Consulting in 1999 with Halbert White, who passed away in 2012. Their vision was to create a place where talented, passionate people want to come to work, to reward collaboration, and to leverage the collective strengths of employees to ensure that clients benefit from the best possible team. Over the years, he set the direction for the firm’s strategic growth and led the management team in building a strong, collaborative partnership that provides the best quality economic consulting guided by strong principles and makes significant contributions in giving back to others in the local community.

Dr. Mullin is an expert on economic and data analytical approaches to insurance issues. He specializes in issues involving mass torts, class actions, insurance coverage, bankruptcies, and due diligence for mergers, acquisitions, and spin-offs. He joined Bates White in 2003 as a Manager and became Managing Partner in 2015, a role he held for nine years. He also served as the firm’s Finance Partner from 2008 to 2015. Dr. Mullin has been named to Who’s Who Legal’s list of Global Elite Thought Leader in Insurance and Reinsurance since 2018.
