Through its pro bono program, Bates White partnered with Bread for the City to analyze the impact of its annual Holiday Helpings program. Bread for the City has delivered turkeys and other groceries to low-income families for over 30 years through the Holiday Helpings program. From 2020 through 2022, the organization modified the program to provide gift cards around the Thanksgiving holiday that participants could then spend as needed.
The Bates White team analyzed how these funds were spent, including the urgency and speed of spending as well as the share of spending by merchant category, such as groceries, retail, and restaurants, and the impact of the program on local businesses. The team also provided a comparison of the program across years that shed light on changes in spending patterns and presented all the findings to Bread for the City’s leadership. The results will help Bread for the City as the organization looks to improve the reach and efficacy of the program.
Bates White has worked with Bread for the City for more than 20 years, supporting the organization with food and clothing drives, in-person volunteering, fundraising, and pro bono analyses.
