Nicholas Hill speaks in podcast about pricing in the airline industry

June 7, 2024

The US airline industry accounts for about 10% of the nation’s GDP and carries about 1 billion passengers a year. In a podcast from DLA Piper, Partner Nicholas Hill discusses the history of airline mergers and pricing strategies in the industry. His co-panelists are Bob Kneisley, the former in-house counsel at Southwest Airlines, and Kerry Tan, professor of economics at Loyola University. They also discuss market concentration in the industry, with the Big 4 airlines having about 80% of the business, as well as the potential for collusion in pricing and the effect of low- and ultra-low-cost carriers.
