Vault named Bates White’s Summer Consultant Program (SCP) the #6 consulting internship program for 2023. The firm's program has ranked among the top programs for seven consecutive years.
Vault/Firsthand ranked the firm’s SCP #37 for internships overall. Bates White also ranked high in several boutique categories: #4 for training and mentoring, #8 for quality of life, and #8 for data analytics.
Vault/Firsthand is a resource for job seekers looking for inside information about the best companies to work for. The 2023 rankings are based on a survey of more than 12,000 current and former interns from more than 130 programs. The survey asks about interns’ experiences in six core areas: quality of life, compensation and benefits, interview process, career development, full-time employment prospects, and diversity.
Bates White offers a 10-week program for Summer Consultants that includes extensive training in skills such as Stata and R and contextual learning such as Introduction to Litigation; hands-on client work on actual cases, including conducting industry research, processing data sets, and helping create client presentations; mentoring by firm leaders, including a peer coach and lunches with senior leadership; and in-person social events like sporting events and sailing trips. A key element of the program is the opportunity to organize a community fundraising event. The 2022 program was in person after two years of being remote.
In completing the survey, one Summer Consultant said, “The firm was very busy during my internship, but management made an effort to ensure there was a good work/life balance. They encouraged us to participate in activities outside of billable work and explore the city.” Another participant said, “I really enjoyed being in the war room with my team and being able to ask anyone for help on tasks. People were extremely friendly and always open to helping.”
Stacy Reyan, Chief People Officer, said, “We are proud to achieve this recognition and excited to be able to provide a positive in-person experience for our Summer Consultants. This ranking validates what we do and the value that our program offers Summer Consultants when they are considering their career options. Our employees care deeply about ensuring that the SCP provides a meaningful experience, with a high degree of mentoring and learning, and we are so pleased that the rankings reflect this passion and effort.”
Bates White has also been ranked a Top DC workplace by the Washington Post for 7 years in a row and has been named to the Global Competition Review’s prestigious Economics 23 for 13 consecutive years.
