Summary

Juan Carlos Gozzi is a Manager in the Antitrust and Competition Practice. He has significant experience conducting economic and statistical analyses of competition, market definition, class certification, and damages estimation. Dr. Gozzi has provided expert support in antitrust cases in a variety of industries, including LIBOR-Based Financial Instruments Antitrust Litigation, NFL's "Sunday Ticket" Antitrust Litigation, Oliver v. Amex, and Veeva Systems Inc. v. IQVIA Inc.

Before joining Bates White, Dr. Gozzi was an Economic Project Manager at the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve, working on issues related to banking, global financial stability, and digital currencies. He also has extensive experience consulting with the World Bank, conducting policy-oriented research on financial market development and public sector interventions to improve access to finance. In addition to his professional experience, Dr. Gozzi was a faculty member at the University of Warwick, where he taught undergraduate and graduate courses on macroeconomics and international finance. His research includes work on US banking, financial globalization, corporate finance, and firm financing and access to capital. Dr. Gozzi has published his research in leading peer-reviewed academic journals such as the Journal of Financial Economics, Journal of International Economics, and Journal of Banking & Finance.

Selected Experience

  • Provided expert support in the LIBOR-Based Financial Instruments Antitrust Litigation on behalf of a class of over-the-counter plaintiffs—the OTC class—that filed a class action lawsuit against the global banks that set US Dollar LIBOR. Conducted economic analyses quantifying the magnitude of the damages for class members.
  • On behalf of the NFL in the National Football League "Sunday Ticket" Antitrust Litigation, supported testifying expert on market definition, theory of harm, and the competitive effects of the alleged conduct.
  • On behalf of Veeva in Veeva Systems Inc. v. IQVIA Inc., which concerned the monopolization of data and data management software for pharmaceutical companies, supported testifying expert on issues of market definition and market power.
  • On behalf of American Express in Oliver v. Amex, provided expert support. Analyzed the competitive effects of Amex’s agreements with merchants.
  • Provided expert support in matter of Telecom Notice of Consultation CRTC 2023-56 Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission. Analyzed Canadian internet service competition and regulatory framework.
  • On behalf of the State of Texas, in State of Texas v. Google LLC, which concerned alleged violations of the Texas Capture or Use of Biometric Identifier Act and Deceptive Trade Practice Act, supported expert in assessing harm associated with alleged conduct.
